The department of computer science and information technology of the Technological Educational Institute of West Macedonia was founded in the city of Kastoria in 2004 on the law 325 (GG 138A/2004). In 2013 it was renamed Department of Informatics Engineering through the presidential decree 90 (GG 130A/2013) and joined the School of Applied Science of the Technological Educational Institute of West Macedonia.

The department offers three directions of specialization:

I) Network engineers

II) Software engineers 

III) Computer engineers

Its main task is to promote knowledge transfer and development in computer science and the above specializations.

The educational process and applied department research provide students with the necessary qualifications for a good education and training aiming at their scientific and professional career and development.

The faculty has experienced staff and researchers, modern equipment and instructional materials, and it is constantly developing.

The department graduates can start a promising career in both the private and public sector in the fields of software /hardware products development, network communications design and installation. The presidential decree 183 determined law governing recognition of professional qualifications in 2008 based on the Gazette Government A246.
